Wire EDM supervisor Martyn Tanner (pictured here with VES Precision technical director Tom Newbery and a check for £500) is celebrating 40 years with VES Precision and is set to cycle the ‘London-Surrey 100’ on Sunday 29th July in support of Breast Cancer Now.
The charity is of particular significance as Martyn, like many others’ has family members whose lives have been affected by cancer.
Martyn is a keen amateur cyclist and rides with the Yeovil Cycling Club. The 100 mile route starts in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and heads through the capital and out into the Surrey countryside. Being a closed-route it means that cyclists are free to enjoy the scenery and take in the atmosphere of the day without having to compete for road-space with cars, buses or commercial vehicles.
“I am really looking forward to the day; it’s a fantastic event and a very worthwhile charity…” Martyn said. “If my efforts can help to improve the quality of life for someone diagnosed with Cancer then I am thrilled to take part”.
In support of Martyn’s chosen charity VES Precision has donated £500, with further individual sponsorship from work colleagues.

40 Years with VES.
Martyn Tanner began his apprenticeship with Scotting & Rigg of Ilminster in June 1978.
S&R was acquired as a sub-contract engineering services company by Varta Batteries in Crewkerne in late 1981 and was renamed Varta Engineering Services (VES).
Varta Batteries closed the Crewkerne based cell manufacturing facility in 1991, and it was at this point that VES became the focus of a management buy-out and VES Precision Ltd. was established as an independent sub-contract engineering specialist in September 1991.
Martyn then went on to become the supervisor of the wire EDM section and is now responsible for 14 machines supplying parts to companies such as Rolls-Royce, Honeywell and Leonardo Helicopters.
